“S.O.S Amazon!”:

hundred years of Berta Gleizer Ribeiro

Keywords: Anthropology, Ecology, Brazilian Indigenous Peoples, Ethnosknowledge

Abstract

The present work aims to pay homage to the anthropologist Berta Gleizer Ribeiro, on her centenary in 2024. In addition to the homage, it aims, based on the analysis of the work S.O.S Amazonia: five centuries of History and Ecology (exhibition and book), to motivate public reflection based on dialogue with Berta Ribeiro's proposal for the social use of indigenous technology, to suggest alternatives for self-sustainable management for the Amazon through the Ethnic knowledge of its traditional and original peoples. The work concludes that it will be through the adoption of indigenous knowledge to coexist with the environment in a friendly way that we will avoid what we call the “Sky falls”, inspired by the work of French anthropologist Bruce Albert and Yanomami Shaman Davi Kopenawa.
